Shape Segmentation for Shape Description

چکیده
In this paper we present a new approach for segmentation of 3D models. The goal of the proposed approach is the decomposition of a model into large simple and small complex components. The top-down decomposition is achieved through the iterative bisection of the model. The bisection process is represented in the hierarchical tree structure. Further the obtained segments are checked on the possibility to be merged into larger simple segments. The results of such segmentation can be used later in the fields of shape analysis and shape description.

Multiscale Image Segmentation Using Joint Texture and Shape Analysis
We develop a general framework to simultaneously exploit texture and shape characterization in multiscale image segmentation. By posing multiscale segmentation as a model selection problem, we invoke the powerful framework ooered by minimum description length (MDL). This framework dictates that multiscale segmentation comprises multiscale texture characterization and multiscale shape coding. An...
متن کاملMultiscale Shape Description of Mr Brain Images Using Active Contour Models
In this paper we present a hierarchical multiscale shape description tool based on active contour models which enables data-driven quantitative and qualitative shape studies of MR brain images at multiple scales. At large scales, global shape properties are extracted from the image, while smaller scale features are suppressed. At lower scales, the detailed shape characteristics become more prom...
متن کاملActive Shape Models for a Fully Automated 3D Segmentation of the Liver - An Evaluation on Clinical Data
This paper presents an evaluation of the performance of a three-dimensional Active Shape Model (ASM) to segment the liver in 48 clinical CT scans. The employed shape model is built from 32 samples using an optimization approach based on the minimum description length (MDL). Three different gray-value appearance models (plain intensity, gradient and normalized gradient profiles) are created to g...
متن کاملStatistical shape models for segmentation and structural analysis
Biomedical imaging of large patient populations, both cross-sectionally and longitudinally, is becoming a standard technique for noninvasive, in-vivo studies of the pathophysiology of diseases and for monitoring drug treatment. In radiation oncology, imaging and extraction of anatomical organ geometry is a routine procedure for therapy planning an monitoring, and similar procedures are vital fo...
متن کاملProbabilistic Shape Analysis for Medical Image Segmentation
Motivation: Segmentation is a fundamental problem in medical image understanding. Most of the further analysis relies on the results of the segmentation procedure. Unfortunately, standard image processing techniques fail to deliver satisfying results for most medical applications. Many types of tissues have similar magnetic characteristics, and therefore have overlapping intensity ranges in the...
